As the surfing industry tries to make money by making and selling products , such as surfboards and clothes they make economic that impact on the environment. This impact can be both good and bad.
negative
Let's say that 20 people have lost their surfboards in a day. Plastic takes ten to twenty years to breakdown, so imagine how long a surfboard takes. Surfboards take a very long time to break down, which can have a bad effect on the ocean /beaches, landfill and the environment.
When making a surfboard there is a process of grinding and rubbing back. This can affect people's health, causing things like asthma. The fine dust goes into the air and this can have a bad effect on not just those people who are working to make the boards but other people who live nearby. The surfing industry and competitions they have can bring rubbish to our beaches. The tourists and people supporting the competitions often leave rubbish behind. This rubbish affects our marine life and water ways. Most trash reaches the seas. Turtles and other animals may eat the rubbish and die from it. Turtles can die when they swallow plastic bags, other animals get rubbish stuck around their necks and this can kill them. |
positive
The surfing industry is a significant business that brings tourists and money to the Gold Coast. It brings many opportunities for employment and for businesses to thrive!! Tourist s need to eat at restaurants, coffee shops and other places.they need to stay at hotels, apartments and caravan parks. They also need transport or to fill their cars with petrol.
Tourists who go and watch surfing comps might be inspired and then go purchase new surfing equipment or clothes.Tourist will spend money on entertainment like movies, music and theme parks and even clubs. There are lots of coffee shops and other businesses near the beaches that depend on surfers or tourists for their income. |
